ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has recovered from a knee injury and will join the team in Australia this weekend for the T20 World Cup.
Afridi has been sidelined from international cricket since July after injuring his knee during a test match against Sri Lanka.
The Pakistan Cricket Board said on Tuesday that Afridi will join the team in Brisbane on Saturday after undergoing rehabilitation on his injured knee in England.
“I have been bowling six to eight overs trouble-free for the past 10 days with full run-up and pace,” Afridi said.
“It has been a rigorous and challenging rehabilitation program, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it … I am feeling fitter than ever before and can’t wait to wear the playing kit.”
Afridi will be available for selection for Pakistan’s two warmup games next week against England and Afghanistan. Pakistan opens its T20 World Cup account against India at Melbourne on Oct. 23.
